Inlays and Onlays are restorations that repair teeth which have significant structure lost but not sufficient to require a crown. Inlays and Onlays are indicated when there has been mild to moderate decay on a tooth and there is insufficient tooth structure to hold a filling in, but not enough tooth structure lost to warrant a crown.
Inlays and Onlays are more durable than traditional fillings in most cases, and can help strengthen the tooth and prevent the need for further dental treatment in the future.
Inlays and Onlays need to be constructed in a laboratory, so if you require one, we will prepare your tooth appropriately, then take and impression that can be sent to the laboratory. We will send you home with a temporary filling in this area until your next appointment. Then at your next appointment the inlay or onlay can be cemented on to your teeth in a similar fashion to a crown.
