Dental Check UP and Teeth Cleaning

It is our firm belief that preventative dental is the key to lifelong oral health – and the key to avoiding more costly and uncomfortable treatments down the track. That’s why at Homebush Dental Practice our aim is to encourage regular dental checkups to not only ensure any issues with your teeth or gums are picked up and dealt with quickly, but that your oral health stays in mint condition year round.

Your teeth and gums are constantly exposed to saliva, which helps wash away debris from your teeth. Even the most rigorous brushing and flossing won’t clear the plaque and tartar away and consequently bacteria starts to grow. That’s why a professional clean from our expert dental team is necessary to avoid gum infections and tooth decay.

What happens at a dental checkup and clean?

Our dentists spend time getting to know you and your oral history and then perform the following:

  • Comprehensive examination – a thorough inspection of each tooth.
  • Scale and Clean – Clearing away any deposits of plaque and tartar.
  • Polish – making teeth shine like new!
  • Fluoride treatment – helps to prevent decay and strengthen teeth.
  • X-Rays – to identify any changes and find any hidden decay.

After your checkup and clean, our dentists will discuss any further treatments as required and assist you in setting up a healthy dental routine.

How often should I get a checkup?

Our dentists strongly recommend that you schedule a dental checkup and clean once every 6 months. This way any problems that may be arising aren’t left to fester for years – causing serious and expensive damage to your teeth. Even if you aren’t experiencing any tooth pain or sensitivity, staying on top of any calculus buildup or change in bone density is vital. Plus, you’ll love leaving our practice with a sparkling, clean smile.

Preventative Dental Tips

Education is vital to long term oral health. Here are a few of dentists’ favourite tips:

  • Brush twice a day with a soft bristled toothbrush and floss once a day.
  • Eat healthy foods and avoid sugary beverages.
  • Avoid smoking and alcohol – both have been linked to oral cancer.
  • Schedule 6 monthly checkups and cleans.
  • Call us if you start experiencing any pain, bleeding, swelling, sores or loose teeth.

Gap Free Dental!

The best part is, you won’t pay a cent for your dental checkup and clean if you have appropriate health insurance! At other Sydney dentists, you’ll pay a fee to make up the difference in the amount not paid out by your private health insurer – the ‘gap’. But with Homebush Dental we offer Gap Free Dental Checkups and cleans. This means you simply swipe your member’s card and go. No out of pocket expenses for our valued clients!

If it’s been years – or even 6 months – since your last dental checkup and clean, call Homebush Dental. Our friendly and experienced dental team are here to make each visit as stress free and comfortable as possible. To schedule your appointment, call 02 8084 7242 today.

Here are our dentist tips for strong, healthy gums and teeth:

  • Brush at least twice a day and floss at least once. Use toothbrushes with soft bristles to minimise wear on your teeth and gums and replace your brush every three months.
  • Your diet is an essential part of maintaining healthy gums and teeth. Eating the right foods can help you keep plaque deposits and gum disease at bay.
  • Visit us at least every six months so we can assess your smile and oral health. We can also remove any deposits that have formed on your teeth that you may not have been able to reach.
  • Visit us immediately if you notice any signs of problems anywhere in your mouth. If you have any pain, bleeding or swelling or if your teeth feel loose and like they have moved in your mouth, please come in straight away and let us have a look
  • Be aware of your mouth. When you clean your teeth, check at the back of your mouth and under your tongue for any unusual sores or changes in colour. If you notice anything please come in and get us to have a look. Sores that do not go away within a fortnight may be due to oral cancer and it is imperative that they are checked straight away.
  • Avoid smoking and other tobacco products. Minimise alcohol consumption. Both alcohol and tobacco have been shown to be linked to increased rates of oral cancer.
