Kids Dentist Sydney
New experiences are not easy for anyone, and this is especially true of children. If your child is about to visit the dentist for the first time, they may understandably a bit intimidated by the idea.
Further, children often get their dental anxiety from their parents. So if you or your partner are anxious about visiting the dentist, the children will pick up on this and will be anxious themselves when it is their turn.
However, with the right combination of communication and preparation, your child’s dental appointment can be comfortable and even enjoyable.
There are a number of things we can do to make your child feel at ease. This includes discussing what dentists do and why oral health is important with your child prior to bringing them in. You can also let them know that the dentist will be counting their teeth and using a mirror and a light to look at all of their teeth and may brush their teeth for them with the special dentists’ electric tooth brush.
Try to make it fun for your child by finding tooth related story books or tv shows – you might even be able to find them tooth related stickers or activity sheets. Reward them for good behaviour (both at home and in the dental chair). Print out a brushing chart from the internet and either get them to color in every time they brush or give them a sticker, and get them a reward for doing a full month of twice daily brushing.
